Weldmark LC40 Set: Check Cable Size and Count the Mating Pairs

Weldmark by Lenco LC40 cable connector set with male and female halves

The Weldmark by Lenco LC40 set contains one male half and one female half for a single complete cable connection. Weldmark specifies this set for 1/0 through 2/0 welding cable and lists a 350-amp maximum. Those three facts answer different ordering questions: what is in the package, what cable fits, and what the connector is rated to carry. None proves that it will mate with an unidentified connector already on your lead.

This guide covers the exact Weldmark WEM LC40 (051504) set sold by Arc Weld under SKU LC40. It is not a universal machine-output adapter, a finished welding lead, or a package containing two complete connections. Start with the cable marking and both mating halves before placing the order.

One set is one complete connection—not two

The easiest quantity mistake is treating “one male / one female” as two usable connection sets. The two halves mate with each other. For a new removable joint between two cable lengths, that pair supplies the connector hardware for that one joint; it does not include the cable itself.

For example, a project requiring two separate new cable-to-cable joints needs two complete pairs, assuming neither joint already has a usable, correctly matched half. Conversely, replacing one damaged half on an otherwise verified assembly may not require a complete set. Inspect and identify the mating half first rather than ordering solely by the number of loose pieces on the bench.

Weldmark catalogs the LC40M male connector and LC40F female connector separately. Their existence does not establish that the other half of an unknown-brand assembly is compatible. Use the manufacturer identification, not “it looks about the same,” to settle that question.

Read the slash: 1/0 and 2/0 are not No. 1 and No. 2

The cable range on this product is 1/0–2/0. Preserve the slash and zero when copying that requirement into a purchase order. A cable marked No. 1 or No. 2 is a different conductor size; do not shorten 1/0 to “1” in a parts request.

Read a legible jacket marking or the cable manufacturer’s documentation. A connector that slides over the outside jacket has not passed the fit check: the termination must accommodate the actual conductor and the cable construction. If the marking is unreadable, identify the cable before choosing the connector.

Do not cut away conductor strands, fold strands back, add packing material, or improvise a sleeve to make an out-of-range cable fit. That changes the termination rather than verifying it. Ask for a connector specifically documented for the cable you have. A photograph and the jacket diameter alone are not enough to approve the substitution.

The connector rating does not size the whole welding circuit

Weldmark lists 350 amps for the LC40 set. That is not a statement that every 1/0 cable assembly is suitable for 350 amps under every condition. The cable, its length and routing, the equipment requirements, the intended duty cycle, the terminations and every other component still need to be appropriate for the job.

Treat the connector rating as one screening limit, not permission to raise the machine output. A higher-rated connector does not upgrade an undersized cable, restore damaged strands or repair a loose machine receptacle. When the proposed setup exceeds a documented component limit, select and verify the complete assembly instead of changing one fitting in isolation.

A cable connector is different from a machine adapter

A shop may have an LC40-family connection on an existing lead and a different connector system at the power source. Buying this male/female set does not, by itself, convert the machine output. Identify the machine-side connection separately.

WSP’s Lenco 05335 LDA adapter fit-check article addresses that different ordering problem. Use it as a starting point for identifying both sides, then check the exact machine and adapter documentation. Do not treat the word “Dinse,” cable color or connector appearance as a complete fit specification.

What to check when the old connection has overheated

Stop using a suspect assembly until its safety is established. With equipment isolated according to its instructions and the parts cool, document the condition of both connector halves, insulating covers and adjacent cable. Heat damage at one end is a reason to inspect the complete connection—not proof that replacing the visible outer cover will fix it.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.254(d)(9) requires damaged cable insulation or exposed conductors to be addressed by replacement, purpose-designed cable joining means and insulation suitable for the service. It also requires equipment use to stop until safety is assured and repairs to be made by qualified personnel. A field wrap is not a substitute for evaluating a damaged connector or cable.

This article does not supply a strip length, tightening torque, lubricant recommendation or acceptance temperature. Those values were not established for the exact set from the product specification reviewed. Follow the instructions supplied with the connector and the power source; obtain the missing instructions before installation rather than borrowing a number from another connector family.

Put these details on the order request

Product and quantity: Weldmark by Lenco LC40 complete set; one male and one female half per set. State how many complete joints you are building or which identified half you are replacing.

Cable and mating part: record the actual 1/0 or 2/0 jacket marking, conductor information and the manufacturer/series of any retained half. Add clear photographs of the mating surfaces and markings as supporting evidence, not as the sole proof of fit.

Service and installation: provide the machine model, intended output and duty cycle, cable arrangement and any damage history. Confirm the required assembly instructions before a qualified person installs it. For an unidentified existing connector, use WSP Find My Part to organize the information before buying.

The buying decision is straightforward once the cable size, retained mating half and required number of complete connections are known; leave any unresolved fit question open rather than forcing a near match.

Reference notes

Specifications were checked against Weldmark’s LC40, LC40M and LC40F product records linked above. The electrical-safety reference is OSHA 29 CFR 1910.254. This is an identification and ordering guide, not a replacement for the equipment and connector installation instructions.
