Weldtec 57Y01SFT vs 57Y03SFT: 12.5-ft vs 25-ft Twister TIG Power Cable

Weldtec part numbers 57Y01SFT and 57Y03SFT look nearly identical, but they are not the same cable length. TEC Welding Products’ current Twister power-cable sheet identifies 57Y01SFT as the 12.5-ft soft-flex-over-braided assembly for 9 and 17 series TIG torches, while 57Y03SFT is the 25-ft version. If the job requires one length and the order is placed by description alone, it is easy to buy the wrong assembly.

Manufacturer-confirmed difference

Part numberManufacturer descriptionLengthTorch family
57Y01SFTTwister air-cooled soft flex over braided power cable assembly12.5 ft9 and 17 series
57Y03SFTTwister air-cooled soft flex over braided power cable assembly25.0 ft9 and 17 series

The manufacturer also describes these as retrofit Twister-style cable assemblies. Its installation note says the replacement is made by moving the handle back, disconnecting the existing power cable from the torch body, fitting the Twister cable of similar style, tightening the connection and repositioning the handle. The sheet instructs the user to turn the welding machine off or disconnect it from the power source before installation.

Why the part number matters more than a copied description

The current Arc Weld product page for 57Y01SFT correctly identifies the part number and product title as a 12.5-ft cable, but one line in the body description still says “Power Cable 25 Ft.” The manufacturer document resolves that conflict: 57Y01SFT is the 12.5-ft assembly and 57Y03SFT is the 25-ft assembly. Buyers should verify the part number first when catalog text conflicts.

That distinction is exactly why replacement-part content should preserve model numbers. A cable that is otherwise the same family can create reach, routing and storage differences just from length. Longer is not automatically better: excess cable may be harder to manage around a bench, while a short cable may not reach a fixture or work area.

Current Arc Weld availability check

At the time of this article check, Arc Weld showed both exact products active: 57Y01SFT with 2 units and 57Y03SFT with 4 units. Inventory changes, so use the live product page rather than treating those quantities as a promise.

Fitment checks before ordering

  • Confirm the torch is in the 9 or 17 family covered by the manufacturer sheet.
  • Confirm whether the required length is 12.5 ft or 25 ft.
  • Verify the existing cable style and connection before removing anything.
  • Do not infer fitment from appearance alone; use the torch model and manufacturer documentation.
  • Disconnect welding power before replacing the cable assembly.
